At the Main Lodge with Guests In 1929, Happy Ley came to the Cowles area looking for a job. He worked at Mountain View Ranch, Los Pinos Guest Ranch and the Cresta de Monte Girls School on Grass Mountain. Happy was well liked and was always in demand as a wrangler and cowboy. Happy and his wife, Delfina, bought the Tererro Store (about 4 miles south of Cowles), which is now operated by his son, Huie. In this photograph, left to right: Matie Viles and Happy Ley are with the horses and a group of guests. Skipper Viles is the third person leaning against the porch and, as was usually the case, wearing his very distinctive hat. |
