Matie Viles Unlike Skipper, who was often gruff and unapproachable, Matie Viles was generally well liked and admired. The guests referred to her as "Mother Viles." They were delighted if she took the time to go on a trail ride with them. Her stories of life in the mountains kept guests entertained on many evenings. Although Matie worked many long,
hard hours, there was always time out for some fun or quiet
moments. Lois Robinson Williams, Matie's niece, worked for Matie
at the ranch and spent time with her. |

"Aunt
Matie always loved to have me near and talked to me a lot. Mother
caught she and I smoking cigarettes in the outhouse once. Boy -
she and I giggled about it - not Mother!"
"Aunt Matie loved her dandelion wine, which she made every year. We had a wee glass at bed time so she could sleep. Our secret - HA!" |
